We are excited to announce the call for Expression of Interest for those who would like to be considered for the Asian Youth Mental Wellbeing Fund.
Fund introduction
The Asian Youth Mental Wellbeing Fund is a USD 3 million philanthropic pooled fund that will span across three years. It adopts a trust-based collaborative philanthropic approach, which aims to support organisations that will address mental wellbeing ecosystem gaps. The goal of the Fund is to strengthen credible non-profit organisations with high-impact solutions to become more effective in their impact delivery.
In the first round of the Fund, AVPN will disburse a total of USD 800,000. For this Round, we will support one to two grantees from each target market – India, Malaysia, and Singapore.
Why youth mental wellbeing, and what gaps are we bridging?
We are seeing more pathways for mental wellness that are affordable, easily implementable and evidence-based. Yet, mental health and wellbeing issues continue to be one of the biggest health challenges in Asia. In fact, there are more than 80 million youths in India, Malaysia, and Singapore struggling with mental health conditions.
Nonetheless, we see an opportunity to turn the economic loss – close to USD 30 billion per year – from mental health costs in these three markets into savings by building a stronger mental wellbeing ecosystem.
We have identified the following ecosystem gaps in Asia’s youth mental wellbeing scene that the Fund will address: (i) a shortage in quantity and quality of mental wellbeing services, (ii) socio-cultural barriers affecting help-seeking behaviours, and (iii) fragmented efforts across the stakeholders.
